The 2nd Annual Winter Block Party for Chicago’s Hip-Hop Arts
Sunday, January 17, 2010 @ 11:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.

The day begins with a free Winter Block Party, celebrating Chicago’s hip-hop arts. Featuring a visual art and graffiti gallery exhibition and market place with works-for-sale by some of Chicago's most notable and up and coming contemporary artists, a B-Boy/B-Girl battle, a special installment of WORD: Across Generations, an open mic showcase, music all afternoon by DJ Itch13, DJ Issues and DJ Seanile, and much more!

@ 11:00 a.m. with a special screening of the award-winning film P-Star Rising, which tells the remarkable story of 9 year-old Priscilla's journey from rapping on street corners to sold out night clubs. Bring the whole family! The film be followed by a Q&A and Chicago's very own Kuumba Lynx. This screening is co-sponsored by ITVS.

@ 2:00 p.m., join us for WORD: Across Generations with Carloyn Rodgers, John Murillo and Aja Monet. Each poet will perform their work and then participate in a post-performance conversation, to be followed by an Open Mic Showcase. This event is co-sponsored by The Public Square, a program of the Illinois Humanities Council.

@ 4:00 p.m The day's festivities will culminate with a one-on-one first come, first served! B-Boy/B-Girl battle hosted by Chicago's very own Wakka from the Legendary Brickheadz.

If you're in need of a new look, fades and haircuts will be available from Sense-Rock at The Hip-Hop Barbershop, and throughout the day the artwork of Chicago artists will be on display and for sale, with proceeds going to the artists themselves. Participating are: Krista Franklin, Revise and other members of The Cartel, Miguel Agilar, James Jankowiak,Brett Neiman, Stephen Flemister, HugoStyle, Anglea Fegan, Genevieve, members of Kuumba Lynx, and more. Books sold all day long by Haymarket Books.

Then @ 7:30 p.m. join us for:
The New Style: Hip-Hop Aesthetics Across Genres
An evening with hip-hop generation innovators and artists in the fields of Dance, Visual Art, Literature, Political Organizing, Journalism, and more. This special event will be an exhibition of style, mash-ups, collage, and conversation on how hip-hop has manifested throughout these fields and why cultural vanguards are pushing us all forward.
